DLookup causes "You cancelled the last operation" error message

At some point I did something to cause subject error on a DLookup and now
every time I try to enter a DLookup I get the error. I even started a
brand-new tiny test database, from scratch, and still get the error. It seems
like the Access application itself is remembering the error.

What gives?

Thanks much, Allen. I finally got it to work. Wow, what fastidious, poor
syntax some of this VB code has. Wish I were back with Fortran.
But the main thing is, I made it with your help.
That's one non-intuitive error message. The programmers must have gotten
tired and tossed lots of stuff into that one workhorse error message. About
as useful as "You did something wrong in this line. Have fun trying to figure
it out!"

And also thanks for the very good writeup on the DLookup function (at your
website). I've printed it off and will be using it alot!

Thanks, Gina, for taking the time to reply. I followed up on Allen's reply
first and finally got it to work.
