dllcache directory is empty

I need to restore or re-generate the contents of the dllcache directory.

While trying to resolve a different problem, I found the my dllcache
directory exists, but it is completely empty. sfc /scannow prompts me to
load the XP cd, which I believe would copy the dlls without regard to any
updates/patches that have been installed.

My most recent backup of the system (from 11/2/04) also shows the dlls
missing; however, I have found that a "Full System" backup from August '04
does indeed have the directory populated. And, an "Incremental" backup from
Sep '04 has a few that were changed since the full backup. (I believe the
files disappeared in late Sep '04)

Questions:
1) Can I manually restore the dlls from these backups to the dllcache
directory?

or,

2) Would installing SP2 result in properly and fully populating the dllcache
with all current dlls?

System is a Dimension 8250; XP-Pro w/SP1. All critical/security hotfixes
have been installed except for those issued in Oct '04.

Use restore cab file. Of course this will not restore the .dlls that your
programs have put there. If you have a good restore point where all are still
there, restore your computer to a earlier date. But 1st put all important
data that you want to keep from previous date until now in the document
directory. Any restore that you do will never change the contents of this
directory.
