Not sure if I'm posting this to the right group, but here
goes:

I'm getting a message every time I open a new window in
Windows XP, which reads:

An exception occurs while trying to
run "C:\WINDOWS\System 32\btiein.dll,Download"

I have no idea how to fix this problem. Any suggestions?

" An exception occurs while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\System
32\btiein.dll,Download"

The dll btiein is a file that is related to a spyware called HuntBar.

For a detailed description, visit the URL given below:

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/HuntBar.html

This problem is due to spywares:

To remove the spyware from your system automatically, please
download and install any of the following spyware remover in your system.

1. Ad-aware:

Download and install Ad-Aware from any of the URLs given below:

To erase the spyware programs from loading from your system, download and
install a third party utility called Ad-aware from any of the URLs given
below:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ (Recommended)

Update and then run Ad-Aware to remove the latest spywares also from your
system. To do so, Download the latest reference file.

-or-

-or-

http://www.webattack.com/dlnow/dlnow.dll?Inc=No&ID=100156

2. Spybot

You can download spybot from the URL given below:

CoolWebSearch Chronicles & CWShredder
http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html
http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip

Check your system for other "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

You must seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
