I have lost the ability to burn files using the DLA program. I normally back
up a file and receive a baloon that states "you have files waiting to be
written to a disc....". I get the confirmation that the data was saved to an
archive but cannot retrieve it. When a disc was inserted to the drive a
window would appear showing the files waiting to be written and giving some
options to process the data. This does not occur any more.

Right click on the drive and click properties. On the recording tab see if
allow recording on this drive is checked.

This is the area I need to adjust, thank you. I have tried this solution
without sucess. I compared the problem laptop with my desktop using the info
you gave me. I noticed on my desktop that the enable box is checked under the
DLA tab and the box is checked to allow writing to disc under the RECORDING
tab. On my laptop (computer I'm having trouble with) it will allow only one
or the other to be chosen.

Don't have a surefire answer for you then but you could try,
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Go down to line 42 on the right side and download the Undo tweak. Run that
script. It is supposed to undo whatever caused your burner to quit burning.
