distribute autoarchive setting via Group Policy?

I would like to set default autoarchive settings for Outlook and have
them distributed to every user on my network. I have the Office
Resource Kit installed in Group Policy. I know there are settings in
Group Policy for the default autoarchive settings and I have set them.
But if a user has their own custom archive setting for each folder then
they are not using the default autoarchive settings. Is there a way to
force all users to use the default settings for all of their folders?

Yes, up to a point. Take a look at the Retention Settings policy in the group policy editor.

I have setup a gpo using the outlook template from the resource kit setting
the autoarchive to run every 60 days. I am running exchange server
2000/outlook 2000 and there are no pst file location or retension settings.
I am not having any luck getting this to work, yet if i run a gpresult on a
pc, it says my policy is getting applied but if i open outlook, autoarchive
settings, nothing is grayed out and you can change settings. Am I using an
outdated admin template possibly? Thank you all.

You must use the .adm file specific to your version of Outlook. I don't have a copy of the Outlook 2000 .adm file handy and don't know whether retention settings are available as a group policy setting in that older version.

From what I have found, the GPO only sets the default autoarchive
settings for users. It does not set the user to use default
autoarchive if it is currently disabled or set to custom autoarchive
settings. It appears that the only way autoarchive settings via GPO
would be useful is if every user already has their profile set to use
default autoarchive settings. I have been playing with this for a
week, off and on, and still can't figure out an acceptable solution.
The only thing I can think of at this point is if there is a way to
turn on default autoarchive settings via an Office .msi. That way I
could re-install Outlook on everyone's machine and it would default to
autoarchive on, which would then allow the GPO to work.
