distortion on monitor

I had a Gateway monitor and several months ago this little 1/2 inch x1/2 inch
multicolored square appeared in the top left corner. I thought the monitor
went bad (it was 4yrs old) so I just bought a new Westinghouse monitor. Just
fine for the first three days and today the same little square has appeared
again in the same spot. It is continuously there while running all programs.
Any idea on how to get rid of it? It's obviously not the monitor since it
has happened on two different ones, so it must be the feed or something??!?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance..

Are you using AVG as your Anti-virus app? If you are, it is the active icon
for it, which is a multi-colored square.

I believe the OP indicated it was in the top left corner. Last I knew, the
AVG icon appears in the lower right corner
