Distorted video display

Upon restart, my display was set wrong. I restored it to 1280 x1024, which I
*think* was the right setting. Since then, the display is distorted: squashed
vertically and stretched horizontally.

Also, fonts are a little fuzzy.

It's a Radeon Express 200 videocard, a Viewsonic LCD display.

Anything I can try? This is driving me crazy.

Thanks.

G'Day Tom,

Go to the Viewsonic website/consult your manual to find the 'optimum' or
'native' resolution for your model.

Unlike CRT monitors, LCD monitors have a native resolution. You always want
to run your monitir at that resolation; nothing else will be satisfactory.

Consult your manual or go to the Viewsonic web site to find out what your
monitor's native resolution is and set it to that.

Thanks to Ken Blake and Pat Garard. I found out by consulting my monitor's
manual, that the correct resolution was 1440 x 900. However, the Display
Settings control panel didn't offer that resolution. So I went to Radeon and
got the latest drivers and a program called Catalyst Control Center, which
put itself in the Task Bar, and *it* allowed me to change the resolution to
the proper setting.

What I wonder, however, is how things got fouled up in the first place,
given that computer and monitor had been happily playing together for months.
But that is beyond my ken.

Again, my gratitude.

You're welcome, Tom. Glad to help.
