Displaying Last Modified Date In File

I'd like to display the "last modified' date on the first page of a document
I'm creating. I'm using Word 2003.

Based on what I found in the help section, I hit Ctrl + F9 and put the
following in the gray area: { SAVEDATE \@ "d MMMM yyyy" }

However, when I switch to print preview, there's nothing there. When I
switch back to normal view, the stuff I typed is gone. What am I doing wrong?

Have you saved the document yet? There is no SAVEDATE until you do.

However, if the document has been saved click F9 with the cursor in the
field, to update it.
