Perhaps this is a stupid question, however I come from a lotus environment
where this was an easy task and I can't find the equivalent feature here so
I'm looking for some help.
All I'm trying to do is display
=223+165
in the cell as opposed to the value of 388
The text feature converts it to a number but I need to be able to caluclate
on the end result of 388 as opposed to the text which has no value. In Lotus
I was able to display the cell contents (not a formula) and I'm sure I can do
it here but have exhausted the help menu.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

You can alternate between displaying formulas and results
with Ctrl+` (left quote; usually also has a tilda on the
key). Or Tools;Options;View, check the show formulas box.
