Display Turn Off inoperative

I have my Power Options set to turn off the display after 10 minutes. It
has been working as advertised for the last 2 months. Possibly coincidently
after the last Windows Defender update KB915597 on 4/13, the monitor no
longer turns off. It'll stay on forever if allowed. Anybody have a clue
why the change in operation?

Monitor sleep is a function of the video card/driver, and it's unlikely
that a Defender update caused it. Those updates are normally pattern
files that keep Defender aware of the latest threats.

If you have not done so already, try rebooting. Then verify power
settings, and see if the monitor responds as it should.

Programs or utilities running the background, such as mail checking, may
cause the PC to think that it is not idle, which could delay or disable
monitor shutdown.

I have the opposite to this and posted here 2+ weeks ago but got no
response.

My monitor turn off settings revert to 20 mins off. No matter what I change
it to, it sticks for about 1 cycle of either a reboot or the screensaver
(just Vista Bubbles) comes on and then when I check Monitor off settings
they are reverted to 20 mins. And it does turn the monitors off as well and
they do wake up cleanly and correctly.

Even altering the shut off time in the advance settings makes no difference,
it still reverts to 20 mins.

A Bug???

The system is rebooted every morning. I do have automatic mail checking.
I'll shutoff mail and see what happens and advise.

You might test a temporary setting of 1 minute for monitor shutdown, to
see if it works in that time frame.

do you use a wireless mouse/keyboard, sometimes their drivers prevent the system from some power operations.

do you use a wireless mouse/keyboard, sometimes their drivers prevent the system from some power operations.

That is a thought in that my old Logitech MX700 doesn't work but it is still connected. Maybe I'll just pull the chassis out of the desk and pull it out of the USB. I was going to do that anyhow but I was too lazy. Note that the display power function did work with the MX700 connected as recent as a few days ago.

Well Mike, that fixed it! The only other thing I did simultaneously was turn the power off on the monitor. So unless that reset something the wireless mouse was causing the problem.

In case you missed it Dev, I had an unfunctional wireless mouse in the
system since day one. However, in removing the mouse from the USB the
display turnoff now works again.
