Display settings problem

I have just upgraded my monitor to a 17' LCD screen and
have set display settings to
1024 x 768 x 32(bit) and monitor refresh rate of 75Hz.
Everytime I shutdown or restart the PC the display setting
defaults to 640 x 480 x 32(bit) and a monitor refresh rate
of 60HZ.
This is becoming very annoying resetting the display, also
at the logon screen the default setting is there before
loading a saved personal settings.
I have upgraded both my ATI video drivers and monitor
drives to the latest ones but the problem is still there.
Can anyone please help me.
Many thks
Bob.
PS. Could there be away to tweak the registry?

Try with the new size but leave the refresh rate alone. LCD displays
do not "refresh", so a low setting is ok here.
