Display problems

I have a problem with my display.i have Dell computer with windows xp home edition .When I start the computer after welcome screen the display goes complete blank but the computer is on.I restart the computer the computer start working.sometimes I have to restart 2 or three times.Any solution to the problem?

It sounds like there is something wrong with your hardware, either the
video card or the monitor. Look at the connector on the monitor going
to the computer - are any pins bent? What changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't? If the machine is under
warranty, you should call Dell tech support. Otherwise, repost here
with more details about your video card, when the problem occurred,
etc.

I have nvidia video card in my computer.I downloaded the updated video driver from microsoft website recently.When I restarted the computer ,the display became 4 bit resulting in a grainy appearance.All my efforts to correct the problem did not succeed.Then I used the system restore to bring to the previous condition.Ever since I have this problem

First important thing to know: never use the drivers for hardware
devices from Windows Update. Always go to the device mftr.'s website.
In your case, you would go to Nvidia's website. First, go to Nvidia's
website and download the driver for your card and put it somewhere
you'll find it, like on your Desktop. Then in the Display applet,
change to Standard VGA. Then go to Device Manager and right-click on
the Nvidia card and choose "uninstall". You'll probably have to reboot.
Now you can install the Nvidia drivers by double-clicking on the file
you downloaded and hopefully that should fix things.
