Display power status on the desktop

I work at a hospital and we are getting ready to use XP based devices for
mobile nurses and other clinical staff. As you can guess, they 1) are
limited technically and 2) have a hard time charging these devices as they
tend to assume they can last forever with a single charge. I know that you
can view the status by looking at the battery icon, but I would prefer to
have this in a size 40 or 50 font on the desktop so they cannot miss it.

Does anyone know of a way in XP to display the percentage of power left in
the batteries (we have a 9-cell and an additional battery in the cd-rom slot)
on the desktop preferably in a digital percentage (ex: 95%, 34%, etc.).
Thank you!

Interesting issue, might also be nice to have the font color change with the
amount of charge remaining.

Are you aware of the alarm that can be setup in Control >Power options>alarm
with sound or only text , you can even make it to run a little program of
your choice to alert in a bigger fashion

Yes, but we have to turn the sound off as we're in a hospital. Can't have
these things beeping when people are trying to sleep.
