I installed a Windows XP Service Pack Update. After doing so all my screen seetings changed. Now all my programs on the Desktop are very small to read. I have tried adjsuting the settings/appearance/resolution etc...... but it just affects my picture quality/screen quality to be fuzzy. I am going blind........please help.

Right click anywhere on your desktop - click on properties - click on
Appearance - click on Font size and change to Extra Large Fonts - click on
Apply and then click OK - this should do it for you.

Hi Bethany,

Try Brenda's suggestions, if you want a larger size, go to Start >
Programs > Accesories > Accesibility > Accesibility assistant.

This will make the text larger, better create a restore point first,
because it is difficult to undo the changes.

I have the opposite problem. I want mine to be smaller, and it is set to small or normal, yet it is still larger than it was last night. I've restarted the computer, yet it remains the same. I run WinXP Pro Ser Pack 1 on a Dell 8250, and this large and wide window drives ME nuts. I don't know what made it change so suddenly. What can I do if it is already set to small but still appears large

I have a similar problem but not with any point/sizing issues. I can't seem to get the FONTs folder to hold the fonts! I have gone thru Control Panel -> Fonts and Installed the fotns for the systems ( some 140+ fonts) and all looks well. I check the display setting to make the various font changes, Apply and OK, and all looks great. The problem originally surgfaced after downloading a Windows XP update set. Since then, all of my normal Buttons, Window Menus, Options and Date/Time ALL look like code or WingDing type text. When I close the FONTs folder after updating all of the fonts, THEY ALL DISAPPEAR!!! They ARE retained in memory for current use, but once I shut down or reset... All back to code text. Any ideas as to a permanent remedy? I was pretty sure of myself and understanding most of XP Pro, but this one has me down. Even past restore points would *not* fix the problem! ANYTHING is a plus right now.

I have a problem with enlarged icons and fonts. The view is so large you cannot even scroll to the area you need. This happens about every third time I log on. I have found that by logging off and on again it will dissapear - but as you suggested, all other fonts are so small they are hard to see. I am tempted to uninstall Service Pack 1 and return to a previous setting.

My problemis similar - except that any picture I open (this includes my
screen savers) is compressed from the sides "in" - as are any files that are
opened. True, I can adjust from 100% to 150% to enlarge a file to readable
size, but it is still "aqueezed - and this does not help any with pictures or
my screen saver. I am new to XP and it has SP2. Is SP2 my problem?

You are experiencing the same problem that has cropped up on me on numerous
occasions. After a system reboot, all text changes to some odd font (like
wingdings or arabic or something). I finally found the problem and how to
fix it. Well, at least I know how to fix it......I assume the problem was
created by the upgrade. To fix it do the following:

NOTE: Be very careful when doing this, because editing the windows registry
can totally screw up your computer if you do anything wrong!!

1. Go to Start/Run and type the word REGEDIT and press enter, to open the
windows registry
2. open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. open the folder SOFTWARE
4. open the folder MICROSOFT
5. open the folder CURRENTVERSION
6. open the folder FONTS
7. In this folder, at the top of the list of items, is an item called
(default). On my computer it was blank.....this was the problem, it was
deleted somehow. Double-click on this item and a window will pop up. Type
in a font name, such as times.ttf (times new roman), or whichever font you
want.....into the Value Data: window.
8. Close the registry editor and restart your computer. This should fix the
problem.

I have seen this problem posted in many threads when trying to fix this
problem and nobody ever posted the correct fix. Since this is a correct
workaround for this problem, until Microsoft provides a solution to the root
cause....please repost this message anywhere you see this question, so
everyone else can get this info as well. Good luck all,
