Display issues

Every time I try and change my display from 1600x1200 to
anything lower it won't change the size of everything on
the screen, it changes the screen size itself. Instead of
it taking up the wohle screen, it will take up a smaller
portion with the text and graphics exactly the same size
only now in a smaller window. It does this while booting
up as well. The only time I noticed it didn't do it is
when I went into the bios setup where it changed to the
normal size.

What should I do?

You need to adjust the monitor controls (typically knobs on the bottom of
the monitor) after adjusting the resolution for certain monitors.
