Display for field in a form

Hello,

I am having some difficulty, and am not sure of the language to search in
the discussion board.

My form has three date fields to be filled out. The input masks are working
great, and show when the field is clicked to enter information, which looks
like __/__/____.
Pretty standard.
I was hoping I could have a display that reads dd/mm/yyyy in the field
before it is clicked on, so that my user understands which date format I
would like the information entered, because __/__/____ could be either mean
mm/dd/yyyy OR dd/mm/yyyy.
Is something like this possible? Basically I'm looking for a text that
displays in a field before it is clicked, and disappears when the user starts
to enter information in that field.
