I have a new IBM ThinkCentre computer with a 40GB drive which came with
XPPRO preinstalled.

I wanted to shrink the XPPRO partititon to about 15GB (about 4GB is used) in
order to install something else above it.

When I looked at the drive, there was a group of files around 18GB, so I
defragged the drive and it moved all these down with the others.

As I went to repartion the drive, there is a tiny file at 17905.7 MB from
the start that didn't move.

Does anyone know why this did not move or if it is something special? I do
not want to use partition magic to compress the drive if it is there for
some reason.

TIA

Just us partition magic. The item probably did not move because it was
being used by the system during defrag.

I'll assume you meant 17905.7 KB, as 17905.7 MB would be 17.9 GB?
