disk space lost!

I am running win xp pro.
It seems that a few GB of disk space got lost.
Does anybody know how I can reclaim the missing disk space?

Nobody can answer a question like that when you are so
unspecific. Please tell us how big your drive is, how much is
free, how much you think got lost, why you think it got lost,
etc.

Set Folder Options - View to show Hidden and system files, then uncheck
the 'Hide Protected mode' and check again

There are a lot of such hidden files, probably accounting for one or two
of those GB. The other set it the restore points (in System Volume
Information). On a large drive the default amount of space allocated to
those - 12% of the drive - is excessive. At Control PAnel - System -
System restore, highlight the drive, take Settings and reduce - I find
500 MB quite enough for the time frame sensible to restore across
