I went to Accessories...System Tools to do a disk scan and it is gone! I
don't know what happened to it. How do I get it back? What would cause this?

Scandisk?
Never existed in Windows XP...
That was a '9x terminology...

In the window - it is called "Error-Checking"... That runs "CHKDSK".

By 'Disk Scan' I am presuming you are referring to 'Disk Error
Checking'. By default this was never available under Accessories>System
Tools for Windows XP.

To run a disk check, double click 'My Computer', then right click on the
disk you want to check (probably you want C: ) and select 'Properties'.
In the window that pops up, select 'Tools' and then simply click on the
first button, i.e. 'Check Now...'

Hope I've been of help.
