Disk Degragment not working

I used to always use my Disk degrament program on XP, and
just today I tried to use it and when I click on the
button within the C drive properties, it does nothing
when I click degragment this drive. If I go through the
start menu and then system tools, it opens the window
that says this may take a few minutes, then just sits
there. Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry I mean to say disk cleanup....errr
