disk defragmenting

Disk Defragmenter hangs up at the beginning of the defrag
routine. I closed every application possible using the
task manager but defrag still wouldn't progress. Please,
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok,
try this routine, boot up in safe mode, disable
screensavers, use defrah in advanced sttings (make
programmes run faster) and leave it running, it will take a
while to run, about 8 hours, but it works well
