Disk Defragmenter

I have a C: drive that contains Win XP and all other
software, and a D: drive that is a recovery partition for
the C: drive, which was set up by Hewlett-Packard. Help
and Support states: "To defragment a volume using the
Windows Interface, open Disk Defragmenter, click the
volume that you want to defragment, and then click
Defragment. When I open Disk Defragmenter how do I
designate the volume, e.g., C: drive,that I want to
defragment? Thank you, Robert

Start > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

Click on the drive and then click on the 'Analyze' button.

Rocky: After the Disk Defragmenter box opens, where do I
find the particular drive I want, so I can click on it.

With Disk Defragmenter open, go to the View menu and select how you wish to
view the drives.

Rocky: I opened Disk Defragmenter, clicked on the View
menu, and saw only Customize. I clicked Customize and in
the screen that appeared, I checked everything. One of
these items must have been the right one because I then
got a box that showed my two volumes. This permitted me
to select my C: drive and solved my problem. I thank
you. But, now can you tell me what items, as a novice, I
can uncheck in the Customize screen. Robert
