Disk Defragmenter "Hangs" at Compacting Files

When I run the Disk Deframenter on Windows XP the program
experiences a long delay "hang" at Compacting Files. How
can this be resolved?

you boys blind or just having some problems in understanding what you are reading?

he surely did not say he is playing with disk cleaner utility.
he said he has issue with defrag.

and it indeed is a annoying feature of XP.
defrag is otherwise really fast, although does poor job if disk is full.
but, the compacting files stage can take an hour on large volume.
