on my 5 Gb disk drive (C), I have deleted files and I have
1 Gb free space. However when I try to defragment my disk,
defragmenter sends a message saying : only 3 % of free
disk space is available to defragmenter, therefore it is
impossible to defragment the volume.
Please let me know how I can make defragmenter use the 1
gb free space available ?
thank you

Have you cleared out your Recycle Bin?

Rick

Have you cleared out your Recycle Bin?
....an deleted any temp files, and cleared out IE's cance?

However the OP's disk is probably too fragmented for even these
actions to help.

Cheers,

Cliff

Yes, do empty out the recycle bin. That often makes
all the difference in the world.

Most defraggers will be quite happy with 1 GB out of
5 GB free. However if the partition is NTFS, you should
note that not all defraggers will make use of free space
within the MFT Reserved Zone. By default the MFTRZ
(including the portion actually used by the MFT) is 12.5 %
of your drive - of over 600 MB on a 5 GB drive.

Very unlikely.
