disk cleanup

does anyone know why disk cleanup would suddenly not
operate. Cleanup window displays and starts to compress
files, then hang up. If I cancel and try to open it
again nothing happens, it is like the application doesn't
exist. Causes my computer to completely slow down and
act funky.

any help would be greatly appreciated. I am operating xp
home edition on a laptop. Rebooting does not correct the
problem.

How long are you waiting for it to finish. Sometimes it
could take a while because there are alot of files. IF
you know for a fact that there arent that many then i
dont know what could be the matter

Hi Wesley,
I wait until there is the computer has stopped accessing
the drive. Very odd thing that it caused the fan in my
laptop to also come on and not shut off!!! Very
biazarre, like the twilight zone!!!!
Have seen other postings with the same freeze up as mine
on the same application!
