Disk Cleanup won't work

Hi.
When I end my computing for the day, I go to "Disk Clean
up" (WindowsXP, Home Ed, Version 2002, Service Pack 1)
and clean house. However, recently I start Disk Cleanup
and nothing happens. I leave the room for awhile and
when I get back there's still no action on the meter.
How can I fix this (if possible) or, failing that, how
can I clean out my Internet Temp Files? (Recycle bin is
no problem.) Thanks for any help. steve
