Disk Cleanup won't open

I have Win XP Home with SP2. When I go to Start, Programs, Accessories,
System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup, a Select Drive box opens. I
select drive (C:), click OK, the box closes and nothing further happens.
What can I do to get the Disk Cleanup tool to open. Thank you, dajudge
