Disk Cleanup program not working .. need help please :) TIA

For about the past month I have not been able to run Disk Cleanup
because it seems to freeze and do nothing for hours. The computer runs
as normal during this time, but the program does not do anything.

The dialog box sits there and it says its compressing old files, and
it may take a few minutes to do, but I run a 2.4 ghz and I have let it
do its thing for about 10 hours and still nothing, so Im thinking it
just stalls out. And after I close this initial window of dialog, it
wont reappear until I restart my computer. Its very odd, and I would
love to correct this problem.

I am running Windows XP Pro, if that helps

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer
yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the
file and selecting Edit.
