HI all

When I try to check my disk with the option "repare faulty system files
automatically", I get the message that it cannot obtain exclusive access and
if I want to do this check at the next startup.

When I click Yes, and restart the computer at some other time, the disk
checker begins before loading to XP. This behaviour is correct and
intented.

However this operation takes much time (2h+) on now-a-days disks and I
cannot stop the checking.

Is there any way to interrumpt the process?

Are you running Zone Alarm Pro as a firewall? If so, the
later versions of ZA (>Vers. 5.0) have a conflict with
chkdisc. You have to disable (temporarilly) the vsdatant
driver from within device manager.
Right click My Computer and select Manage
Click Device Manager in left pane
On Computer Management menu click View--ensure that show
hidden devices is selected.
Click "+" beside Non_Plug and Play Drivers
Scroll down to VSDATANT, right click and select disable.
Open ZoneAlarm and deselect start ZA at system start.
Re-Boot computer. Chkdisc will run unhindered.
After chkdisc finished reverse above process.

Pedro.
