"disk boot failure"

We keep getting a disk boot failure on my boyfriends pc
It is a Fry's Multimedia 7240M, 2.4Ghz, 60gb hd, we have
taken it to fry's 3 times in the past 2 weeks, they keep
sending it home saying it is fixed. we plug it in and
almost immediately get the "Disk Boot Failure, insert
system disk to continue" And then we insert the recovery
cd's and start the whole process over again. Any Ideas?

Take it back to "Fry's" and when they say it is OK - get them to plug it in
and show you it is OK in the store and ensure you are confident of the
quality of the fix before you accept the machine back.

We have done that 3 times, and once it locked up there,
they replaced the motherboard. Then it has done it twice
since then. Could it be the hard drive?

Probably a hard drive failure or a faulty windows
installation. Personally I'd buy a new hard drive (you
can get 120GB HDD for 50-60 dollars after rebates
sometimes - check slickdeals.net regularly. Install your
new HDD, put your windows cd in the cd-drive, restart, go
into cmos and tell it to boot from the cd-drive only and
it will walk you through installing the Operating system.
Then put your old hdd as a second HDD to get your data
off of it. Then toss the old drive. Or keep it for
backup. Personally, I'd use another more reliable drive
for backup as you always should have another hdd in your
computer or at least a networked computer for backup.

Watch out here!!!
Your booting order in the Bios may be set to A: / CDROM
In which case, the pc checks there first and report a disk boot failure
when there is no booting diskette and then checks CDROM: also to find a
wrong or no cdrom.

Meaning that the installation actually takes place!!! If your disk were to
be bad installation can't go ahead. Try the correction in the Bios to read
:
First Boot: HDD 0 (**mind you, not HDD 1**)
