disk boot failure

I ran diskeeper 2007 on my ystem yesterday. Everything was fine till this
morning when I discovered the sytem was locked. I had to close the system
down by using the on /off button. On restarting I get the error "Disk boot
failure, insert system disk and restart" I have run setup to reinstall and
repair the existing windows installation but it doesn't recognise a windows
installation on any of my drives! However if I go into the repair console it
tells me i have a windows directory on d drive. Could it be the the MBR is
faulty. I ran fixmbr and it came up with "the computer appears to have a
non-standard or invalid master boot record" It also says to run FIXMBR may
damage my partition tables!! Anyone got any ideas
Help Please

The error "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and restart" indicates the
system cannot locate the boot files. Often due to a change in the boot.ini
file.
Usually a "repair" corrects the problem - I may repeat info of which you are
aware - that is there are two repair options when booting from the XP CD.
The first is to repair via the recovery console - the second is presented
after you proceed with setup (At the welcome screen) - you are notified that
setup has found a Windows installation and offers the option of repairing or
reinstalling - select repair and setup/repair will proceed. If the Windows
installation is not found - big trouble.
Regarding the notice about "FIXMBR" - the warning is generic - I would
consider it an option if the repair above is unsuccessful
