When it does start look in look Event Viewer at the Warnings /
Error Reports in the System log and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error
Report. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

If it doesn't start disable automatic restart on system failure. This
should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly.
Keep pressing the F8 key during StartUp and select option - Disable
automatic restart on system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There are a couple of possibilities:
1. If your computer has a 3.5 inch diskette drive you may have left a
disk in it.

2. Your hard drive is experiencing hardware malfunctions. Identify
the manufacturer of your hard drive (use Control Panel - System -
Hardware - Device Manager and click on the + sign in front of the Disk
Drives section header), go to the drive manufacturer's web site, and
download their free diagnostic software. Run that to check out the
drive for possible hardware malfunctions.

Good luck

Try opening the computer's case (if desktop model) and unplug and replug the
4-pin connector to the hard drive. It may be loose.
