Discussion Group accessibility

I already have a Microsoft .NET Passport and use it to log in to my e-mail
account.

However, when I try to open a Discussion Group I am repeatedly asked for my
login and it simply fails to log me in. I am taken to all sorts of blank
screens, or if I am lucky enough to reach the Discussion Group, then my
status is still shown as 'Sign In'. Every time I do try to sign in I check
'Save my e-mail address and password' option, but each time I try to access,
I'm asked for my login details.

My e-mail account (@msn.com format) is my IE home page. For the past couple
of weeks every time I go to this page, I'm asked for my login, which I
provide, but the system responds that either the e-mail address or password
is incorrect. I enter the password a second time and am allowed access.

All of this is rather too frustrating - does it really have to be this
difficult?!

Any advice on making access easier welcome. Better yet, could Microsoft just
make it easier to achieve such simple tasks?

No login is needed. And you don't need to go to the webpage.

Set your newsreader (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or even a *competent*
newsreader from a third party) to msnews.microsoft.com; subscribe to your
prefrence of newsgroups (no login, no ID, no password required).
