Disconnecting internal loudspeaker harmful?

Group,
on my work I have a computer that issues an annoying BEEP from the
internal loudspeaker when you do something wrong (like scrolling above
the top of a spreadsheet) or there happens something (an incoming email).

I have taken the liberty of opening the case of the computer and unplug
the wires between the motherboard and the internal loudspeaker.

Can this be harmful?

It is a recent type HP, Windows XP.

I know, by tuning the system settings I can turn it off, but my
ICT-department doesn't allow me to do so (nor opening the computer).

Thanks for any advice,

No, but you will be unable to hear the "beep codes" if something malfunctions
in the future.

My ICT-department is unable to hear anything.
Sorry for the joke,
