Disconnect from the internet?

I have a Windows 2000 computer and for some reason it
doesnt disconnect from the internet anymore. I have tried
right clicking on the network connection down on the
taskbar, but nothing happens.

I have tried going into my network places and
disconnecting from there, but still nothing happens.

Right now the only way I can disconnect is from restarting
the computer.

Also of late, there has been an svchost error, but I am
not sure that it is causing the problem.
