Disc Copy failure with Ghost 10

G

Geoff

I have been playing with PCs and Ghost ( 5 & 6) for a few years.
Just bought a new PC (Win XP Pro SP2) and Ghost 10. (Boxed copy from
Amazon inc Ghost 2003)
Bought additional drive and partioned into two (D & E). All quite
stisfactory.
Original and new drives both SATA-300
Imaged (now "recovery point") original drive C to E. Did Disc Copy
(with all the required Active, MBR boxes ticked) to D.
Worrying, blank, silver-blue screens for some time but all seemed to
finish in the end.
Disconnected orig drive and put new one in its place.
On bootup got Win XP black background screen, no +HP splash screen,
Welcome screen background, but no "Welcome" and PC hung.
Repeatable problem.
Booted from Ghost CD, restored image on "E" to "D" inc MBR data. Re-
booted and after requested re-start all fine.
Perfect copy of original (smaller, single partition) drive.

Days of attempts to get this info to Symantec failed with inumerable
routes all leading to one dead end or another.

I am new to Google groups and I am not sure I am posting this in the
correct place. Others seem to have had a similar problem. Does anyone
have any answers?
Regards,
Geoff

Rich,

How do you contribute to these groups such that your posts are viewed
by everyone but your email address is not.
I thought the group handling software used one's address to verify
membership but then posted the message without it.

Geoff is using Outlook Express to post.

You are using a web-interface provided by Google Groups only allows you to
do & see certain things, as Google see fit.

If participating in UseNet groups, it's best to use a 'real' newsreader,
that talks to your ISP's NNTP server directly.

OE does UseNet, but that would be my last choice. XNews is a good free news
reader.

Geoff, I last used Ghost 7.2 and had mixed success with imaging my
WinXP Partition. Twice it worked fine as long
as I had the Source Drive connected otherwise it would just get to the
Welcome Screen and Stall. Once it worked the
way it should. Never had any trouble imaging Win9x.
