Hello. I am going to be doing a disaster recovery test in a few weeks off
site and I had a question regarding restoring the server. I will be
restoring a windows 2000 server. The server will have different hardware
than I use daily. We will not have internet access to the servers so my
question is about installing the patches to get them to the same level as my
production environment. Since there are over a hundred patches to install, I
really don't want to have install them manually. Is there a way to do this
with a restore? Thank you for your help.

We use Backup exec for our backups, and perform regular offsite restores with
dissimilar hardware. We use the IDR option and are generally pleased. The
most common issue we hit now is with the network card. If they are different
there are some registry conflicts to work through. The IDR deals with the
disk controller effectivly.

It's not recommended on domain controllers (the article says so). It might
be interesting to test, though... ;)

Best regards

yeah I read that too, so my next question is how do I do what I need to do
for the domain controller? This particular disaster recovery test needs to
have a domain controller restored. Thanks for your help.

For a single DC you have no choice, as I understand it. If you have
multiple DC's, a rebuild would be possible.
