disappearing files

On trying to rename files to get some orderinto my list,
much of my previous work disappeared. Now in the original
frame appears only the comment: 'Could not open page
file:///C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/Web
Sites...'etc. Have I accidently deleted them?

Sounds like you renamed them outside of FP. Always, work with FP files from within FP - FP keeps track of it's own files.
