Disapearing o.g. mail

This is difficult to explain. I use OE6 in XP Pro. I go on line via dial up,
check my mail, come off line but do not close OE.

I then create new mail to answer some of my incoming and when I select
'send' the message goes to Outbox then immediately goes to the 'Sent" box !!
Even though I am not on line, so they obviously haven't been sent!

Any ideas please.
