Disabling System Restore Question & Help

Nick

Hi; I seem to have a virus in C:\System Volume Information\_restore
(bunch of numbers).exe and when I run an auto scan it is not detected.
So to get rid of it what is best way? It is the win 32.Dumaru.A.virus.

If I disable system restore and reboot without it and then run virus
scanner will it find and delete it. And if so does shutting off delete
all current system restore points. Where do i turn it off and on. I
seem to remeber a check mark or box check to do this somewhere. Nick

Nick,

Turning off system restore will delete all your previous
restore points but it should allow you to repair the
virus.

To turn off system restore: Control Panel > System >
Click the System Restore Tab. Unselect Box. Click Apply

HTH

PS Dont forget to Turn system restore back on after Virus
is removed.

If you shut off system restore and reboot you will have
no need to run another virus scan all information(check
points and the virus)will be gone.
once you rebooted turn S/R back on and reboot a second
time, this will check if the auto check point feature is
working.

That means it is in a Restore point made before it was detected and
removed. It can do no harm there, unless you restore to the point
concerned. So wait for a new clean one to have been made (or go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore and
create one manually) then Start - All Programs - Accessories - System
Tools - Disk Cleanup and on the More Options use the button to delete
all but the more recent point - the virus will go along with the point
it is in

Alex; So many thanks for the valuable info. I wish they could stop all
those nasty virus people and for what gain. Nick
