Disabling .NET integration in User Accounts

N

Nathan Given

Hello All.

Last week I Added a .NET Passport to my User Account in Windows XP
Professional.

Now, I can't figure out how to disable this feature.

I ask because I use a modem to dial up and at various times during the
day my computer will AUTOMATICALLY connect to the internet. I DON'T
WANT IT TO AUTOMATICALLY CONNECT... this is frustrating.

And when I disconnect, it will sometimes try to reconnect me (a little
window comes up that says, "Connect using...[it lets me choose which
one of my 2 ISPs to connect with]".

Also, I wanted to remove my .NET Passport from my user account because
I want to use MSN Messenger to chat with my friends... but whenever I
start Outlook Express Windows Messenger fires up and kills my MSN
Messenger connection. I've tried to figure out how to disable the
auto-login feature but it still logs me in.

All of this is really weird because at my work computer, I don't have
any trouble between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger... When I
installed MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger just went away. I haven't
seen it since (about 2 months now)... How come I don't have this
rivalry problem between Windows Msgr and MSN Msgr at work but I do
have it at home? (Both computers run WinXP Pro... at home I use
Outlook Express and at work I use Outlook).

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Greetings Nathan,

To remove your saved Passport information in Windows XP, click the Start Button, then click
the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name,
and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network
Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click
'Remove'.

To stop Outlook Express from loading Windows Messenger, close down Outlook Express, then
download and run this .reg file:
