How do I disable the logon screen at startup? I don't use
a password to logon to my computer, yet I'm always being
prompted for one.

My operating System is Windows XP Professional.

thank you

Thanks Ron
For your kind suggestion amd for trying to help me.

The problem is that when I click on 'changing the way
users logon button' (as you suggested) it gives me the
option of choosing the logon 'welcome screen' at startup
or the 'password logon screen'.

The 'welcome screen'is annoyance personified in that when
my computer is left idle it defaults to this screen.

I'm really stumped

Thanks again for trying

Hi,

This may be due to the .Net Framework update. In any case:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

For your second and related issue:

Right click the Desktop/Properties/Screen Saver tab, look at the options
for your Screen saver and also Uncheck the "On resume, password protect"
option.

Also in the Monitor Power settings using the Power button. Look on the
Advanced tab, and the Options section, uncheck the "Prompt for password when
computer resumes from standby" option.
