Some of my programs allow me to temporarily disable them by right clicking
the icon in the system tray and then clicking "Disable." Some of my other
programs do not have this feature. Now, I believe you can go to the Windows
Task Manager, click on the program you want to temporarily disable and then
click "End Task" or "End Process." I believe I once read you can go back
there and click on the program again to "Enable" it. Is this correct? And
is there a button to click to start it again?
I'd appreciate step-by-step instructions on doing this. Thanks.

Disabling programs is not a feature of all programs and also all
programs do not create a tray icon or menu.
There is noway t o disable a program temporarily in general. ending
task or process terminates the running program!
it is exactly the same as clicking the close button of the program
window.
So, temp disable feature is a feature of only a few programs like
dictionaries and similar programs that do not need a window to interact
with user.
hope that it helps.

O.K., guys, thanks for the input.

No.

Yes, Task Mangager has an option to restart an application.

Task Manager | File | New Task (Run...)

New Task is identical to the Run command on the Start menu.

To satisfy the nit picking I should have been more specific, the OP said "I
believe I once read you can go back there and click on the program again to
"Enable" it. Is this correct?" This is not correct, all you have is the
mentioned "new task" which is the same as Start > Run.
