Disable Windows Messenger integration with Outlook Express

Can anyone tell me how to disable Windows messenger from signing in automatically when outlook express starts??? I tried with disabling it from starting or logging on by itself but it still keeps on running in background although that option is also unchecked.

The default view of outlook express shows the contacts pane at startup. This triggers the launch of windows messenger. Remove the contacts pane from the view. (as well as the checkmark to automatically start messenger in the general options)

View -> Layout... Uncheck "Contacts".
