Disable Warning - Your computer might be at risk

Running XP SP2

I would like to disable the warning about having Firewall switched off
or virus protection being out of date on a few machines at this
organisation. I keep track of things such as Virus version levels
through the management software that came with the anti-virus software
and some users are just plainly confused if they see spurious pop-up
messages

Does anyone know whether there's a registry setting to disable this
message, which pops up from the taskbar

Thanks

Peter

No need to edit the registry, there's an option from
the security center interface.
Open the security center. On the left, there's
a bunch of options.
One of them has to do with "how do you want to be notified"
(paraphrasing)
Look in there and you'll find a way to turn it off.

I beleive what you are refering to is called "Change the way Security Center
alerts me".

The warnings can be killed from the Security Centre in the Control Panel.
You'll see that (Windows) Firewall Protection is turned off in the security
center, so click on the "Recommendation..." button, and in the
Recommendations window tick "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor
myself, so fog off." The same is true of the "Virus Protection" entry in
the Security Centre, sort of... First disable your anti-virus, then go to
the Security Centre to stop Windows from monitoring your antivirus software,
then enable the antivirus software.

Oh, yeah... Never noticed that text before. How embarrassing.

Thakns for pointing me in the right direction. I did some playing and I think I found the answer. You can take the steps to whatever degree you want NIS or NAV disabled. By this I mean you can just click in the taskbar icons and click disable. You can run msconfig and uncheck them in the start up tab or you can get really brave and delete them in the registry or remove (or rename) them from your files
In any case, however you disable them you will (sooner or later) get the annoying message. When you do, open the task manager (ctl-alt-del). Select the "applications" tab. You will see the warning application. RIGHT click on it and click "go to process". This will take you to the processes window with the offending party highlighted. Click the column where it says "IMAGE NAME" to sort by name. Scroll down to file and you'll see 2 files (one will be yours) named symwsc.exe and symwscno.exe. Click on each one and click "end process". That will do it. The messages stop. You will have to go to the Windows security Center in Control panel and disable those warnings as well but that will e the end of it. Hope it works for you as well!
