disable system bell

The "volume" icon in the system tray displays with a circle and slash,
indicating that it's muted, which it is.

However, it still beeps.

Can I disable this with some settings, or must I physically disconnect
the bell?

You can find and configure it under Device Manager|View|Show Hidden
Devices|Non Plug and Play|Beep|Action|Properties|Driver, then set the
"Startup Type:" to "Disabled"
