Disable mail notification icon in system tray?

How do I disable the new e-mail notification icon that
appears in the system tray when I receive a new e-
mail...there doesn't appear to be an option in mail
settings.

Maybe I should have more willpower, but it's distracting
to my productivity ;-)
 
What version of Outlook are you using?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
