Disable low disk space notification

I have a whole partition dedicated to my pagefile, and it has the barely
minimum left of free space. I keep getting the low disk space notification
for it, is there any way to disable it? I've tried the XP registry
approach, with no luck...any ideas?

I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Pablo

How big is the partition?
Is it on the same drive as the OS?
If, so it's a total waste of time to have the pagefile on a partition that is on the same
disk as the OS.

The page file should either be left where it is on the boot partition, OR on
another installed PHYSICAL drive.. one should not create a special partition
for it..

I always had the impression that pagefile fragmented, having a whole
partition for it would make that impossible. Is that not the case?

Anyway, even if I don't need to put the pagefile in other partition, isn't
there a way to disable the frigging low disk space baloon?

Thanks,
Pablo

Only if you were to increase the size of the page file after it has been created.
When the page file is created it is set at a fixed size on the disk.
However, just because its set at 1,500mb for example, it is very seldom that the full
1,500mb is used if you have sufficient RAM

On my machine with a gig of RAM the page file is set at 1,500 mb
Normal useage runs about 60 to 70 MB

It's *worse* than "a total waste of time." It puts the page file
farther away from the other frequently-used files on the drive,
thereby increasing the time taken for head movement to and from it.
The result is *decreased* performance.

Ummm...OK then, my understanding was correct. On a typical day, my poor
machine uses around 2.5 and 3.0 gigs...;)

OK, that's a good reason not to do that...but you still haven't answered
my question. Any ideas?

So move the pagefile back to C and the warning will stop..

I've tried that already, seems not to be working on Vista.

Is that possible, or I'm missing something (apart from the fact that its
stupid to have a pagefile partition, we've already settled that, OK? ;).

Yes, but now I'm curious. ;) Is there a way to disable that putrid popup?

Thanks,

Sorry, I didn't know you had tried it.

Yup, I've tried that, and didn't work. Are you sure that still works on
Vista?

Pablo, I didn't see where or if you had mentioned how big the partion was
and how big the swap file was?

I'm curious because I'm planning to add a second drive to and was planning
on having a small 1st partion for the pagefile and the rest for data files.
The thinking being: 1) performance boost of having swap on a different SATA
drive than system, 2) don't have to back up pagefile.sys in image backups,
and 3) a bit of control over where pagefile.sys lands on the 2nd drive, my
understanding being that the 1st partitions accessed faster than the other
edge of the disk.

Unless someone tells me this is also a bad idea I figured I'd at least try
to learn from your issue and size the partion and swapfile large enough so
as to avoid the warning.

Pablo

It is anything BUT a putrid popup.. one day it will warn you of
impending data loss..
OK, OK, bad wording, sorry about that. In this particular case, it is
annoying, and it would be cool if it was possible to disable it. Don't
take it personally, I'm just trying to learn.

It's a 2.1Gb partition with 67.5Mb of free space. Still no one could
answer if it's possible to remove the message, and the Windows XP registry
workaround didn't worked for me.

When a disk fills to capacity, the chances of losing ALL of the files on it
becomes very high, so you do not ever want to disable it. What you have to
do is to rectify the problem of which you are being warned. In this case,
you need to move the page file off of the partition and put it back into C.
The page file will like you for it, and the warning will cease. You could of
course reduce the page file size to 75% of the partition size, but you still
have a less than good page file..
