Disable Function Keys

I'm looking for a way to disable the Function keys in Word so I can use them
for a program working in the background. For example, a program like Windows
Media Player or Express Scribe. I want to be able to control playback without
leaving the Word window.

One of my pet hates is the way WMP takes over keys. Disabling keys in Word,
however, will not make them available for background tasks. The only way
you can do this is to define the keys globally (in Windows) and, no, I can't
tell you how to do that.

I experience this with the player for my digital voice recorder (Olympus DSS
Player): F4 (even if the Word window has focus), instead of repeating the
last action in Word, will pause or restart the player. I've found that this
is actually kind of handy when I'm trying to transcribe a recording, but
most of the time it's just annoying.

Thank you, that did the trick.

You can change the hot keys in ExpressScribe to anything you want so
the function keys in Word work as expected. Check the Settings menu
in ES.
