I have checked the option to always enable automatic refresh for an Excel file that has links to an Access database. How can I reverse this so I once again get the choice to enable or disable.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Kris,

Uncheck 'Update remote references' under Tools|Options|Calculation.

If you don't want to be prompted to update links, uncheck 'Ask to update
automatic links' under Tools|Options|Edit

Finally, if you want to force calculation to 'Manual', look under
Tools|Options|Calculation.

Cheers

I'm not sure if Kris is experiencing this problem in the same area as I am, but it would appear that your solution is not effective for links to EXTERNAL data (eg. MS Access). I made the mistake (in hindsight) of checking off the box that says something like "Don't ask me this anymore" to the question (something like) "Do you want to enable automatic refresh for external links?", at which point you can enable or disable. I clicked on enable and checked the "Dont ask anymore" box
The recourse for changing your mind later does not seem to be immediately apparent

Any ideas
